About Us

Pontefract cycling club was founded in April 2007 by the active riding members of the old Pontefract Cyclists Touring Club (CTC) section. We are affiliated to the CTC.

Sunday club runs are the backbone of the club's activities, and we generally meet every Sunday at 09:00 hrs at the Buttercross, next to St. Giles Church, in Pontefract town centre. Some of our runs have a car assisted start (See Club Run Programme) and riders usually arrange to share transport. On such runs some riders will still meet in Pontefract in order to do a longer run.

Club runs usually include a cafe stop at around 11 am and lunch time, and perhaps also a stop for tea in the afternoon on a longer trip. Runs cater for all abilities and ages. Members come from all walks of life with a current age range of between 5 and 70+. Families and children are particularly welcome to join us. (On club runs children under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)

Our Sunday runs vary from just a few miles in the winter to up to around 60 miles in the summer. We also sometimes split in to two groups, with a leisure / family section doing a shorter ride and a fast section heading much further afield. See below for rides list.

Club activities also include Youth Hostelling weekends away, overseas trips, cycle camping, challenge rides, sportifs, and non-riding social events.

We also support local cycling events and charitable campaigns such as the Prince of Wales Hospice ride.

Annual membership is £8.00 and free for under 16's. (Non-riding membeship is £6.00) Additionally we strongly encourage individual membership of a national cycling organisation such as the CTC or British Cycling. (Follow "Useful Links" on the left.)
